ELGIN, Ill. - Playing amongst some of the best baseball players in the United States, Zach Williams (Bloomington, Ill.) made his debut for the Pittsfield USA Defenders this week in the New England Baseball League (NECBL). The NECBL is one of the top summer leagues in the United States.
Williams made his debut with a hit and two RBI in an exhibition game against the USA Military All-Stars as Pittsfield fell, 5-3. The Pittsfield team features players from 17 different states and 21 different college and universities. Almost all the players are from NCAA Division I programs and eight players still have not reported yet due to their play in the NCAA Division I regional tournaments.
At Judson, Williams was in his first year as a junior after transferring from Heartland Community College. He finished the season with batting .374 with nine doubles, six triples, three home runs and 40 RBI. He played and started in 45 games for Judson helping them to one of their best seasons ever as they won a program best 30 games and finished third in the CCAC.
