
ELGIN, IL. - It was an all-around great day for the Judson University baseball program as they broke the school record for wins and recorded a no-hitter over Indiana University-Northwest. Judson won game one, 6-1, and then Jeremy Winnan threw a no-hitter in game two for the 11-0 win. Judson is now 28-19 on the year.
Zach Scipione was 3-of-5 on the day with five RBI while Kevin Fischer and Zach Williams all had three hits. In game two, Nate Haberkorn was 2-of-2 with three RBI.
Matt Musser stayed perfect on the year with the game one win as he is now 3-0. He went seven innings and recorded five strikeouts while giving up one earned run. Winnan went five innings for the no-hitter win in game two with six strikeouts and only one walk.
The 28 wins surpasses the 27 wins that were set in the 2004.
Judson scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 6-1 win after the game had been tied for four innings. Indiana-Northwest scored first in the top of the first inning and the Judson answered in the bottom of the inning for the 1-1 tie.
Both Kevin Fischer and Zach Scipione went 2-of-3 as Scipione had two RBI and Fischer one. Bret Ehrlich and Zach Williams each had a double.
Williams doubled in the first inning for the tying run as John Banks scored. Matt Musser retired the side in second, third, and fourth innings. In the second inning, he struck out the side for three of his five strikeouts.
In the sixth inning, Mike Krueger recorded a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run as Banks touched home plate. Scipione, the very next batter, singled to right field to add two more runs to the board. Royce Krueger kept the scoring going with another single that brought home Scipione. Fischer finished out the scoring with a RBI single to center field that had Royce Krueger come in.
Musser went the seven innings facing 27 batters with five strikeouts, four walks, and one earned run.
Jeremy Winnan was the star in game two as he recorded his first collegiate win with a no-hitter. In his third appearance of the season, he faced 17 batters and struck out six with only one walk. He retired the side in the first, second, and fourth innings.
Judson batted around in the first inning having eight players touch home plate for the 8-0 lead. Scipione, Nate Haberkorn, and Angel Cisneros each had two RBI in the inning as the other two runs scored on an error and a wild pitch.
Scipione added his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field that had Williams advance home. In the fourth inning, Haberkorn had one RBI as the other run came in on an error.
Judson will travel to Indiana to face Oakland City University in a double header on Monday.
