
WHITING, IN. - In their final CCAC series of the 2009 season, Judson University (23-22/11-7) split with Calumet College. Judson fell in game one, 3-2, but bounced back with an 18-14 win in game two. Lizzy Jacobson took the win. With 23 wins, Judson needs just two more wins to break the single season record of 24 that was set last season.
Calumet College scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then one more in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Judson scored first in the top of the first inning when Jacobson single home Carrie Sensor who had reached on a walk.
Judson cut the lead to one, 3-2, in the top of fifth inning as Sensor scored again when Victoria Perez singled her in. In the sixth inning, Judson had runners in scoring position with only one out but did not get the hit to tie the game.
Producing only five hits, Nicole Dimiceli, Jacobson, Perez, Tricia Lakotish, and Kristin Krueger all had one hit. Jacobson and Perez each had one RBI. Judson left 10 runners on in the game.
Perez started the game and went one inning giving up two runs with two strikeouts. Jacobson came in relief and finished the final five innings and had three strikeouts and one earned run.
The bats were alive in game two as 32 runs crossed the plate with 18 in favor of Judson with 18 hits. Judson led the entire game but Calumet was within striking distance after the fifth inning when they made it 8-6. Judson answered with five runs for a 13-6 lead only to see the Crimson Wave score seven runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 13. Once again, Judson responded with five runs in the top of the seventh to make it 18-13. Calumet only scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Jacobson batted in the first run in the first inning and then Perez followed with a single to bring home Nicole Dimiceli. Two batters later, Perez and Jacobson scored on a Calumet error to make it 4-0. Sam Gladen recorded the fifth run when she touched home on a Lakotish single. Danielle Curylo was the sixth run of the inning when Krueger singled her home to make it 6-0.
After Calumet put up one run in the bottom of the inning, Judson added two more for an 8-1 lead in the second. Dimiceli gave herself a RBI with a single that scored Sensor and then Dimiceli came in two batters later on a Calumet error.
Calumet cut Judson's lead in half, 8-4, in the bottom of the inning and then there were two scoreless innings before the Crimson Wave made Judson sweat. Calumet scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 8-6. This did not phase Judson as they spotted themselves with five runs in the sixth inning for a seven-run advantage. Jacobson doubled home Dimiceli and then two batters later Gladen's sacrifice fly had Jacobson score. Curylo followed with a single that brought in Perez for the third run. Concetta Lampugnano finished off the five runs with a two RBI single that saw both Lakotish and Curylo score.
Things became interesting in the bottom of the inning as Calumet College tied the game at 13 with seven runs scored. As done before, Judson fought back and scored five of their own runs in the top of the seventh for an 18-13 advantage.
With the bases loaded and one out, Lakotish Krueger brought in the first two runs with a single and then two batters later Sensor singled in two runs to put Judson up 18-13. Dimiceli finished out the scoring with an error that scored Lampugnano. Calumet scored one in the bottom of the inning but could not match Judson's offensive power from the top of the inning.
Alyssa Cook started the game and went one inning as she gave up one run with one strikeout. Jacobson finished the game by going six innings and had four strikeouts but gave up 10 earned runs.
Sensor led Judson with four hits and two RBI and Krueger had three RBI. Lampugnano, Dimiceli, Perez, Gladen, Lakotish, and Krueger all had two hits.
Judson will travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Thursday, April 23rd, to face Lewis University in their final regular season double header.
