Judson 8, Trinity International 4 - Box

ELGIN, IL. - Scrapping up four runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run by Zach Williams, vaulted Judson University (18-16/11-7) to an 8-4 win over Trinity International University (4-20/3-13) in CCAC play. Trinity International University scored two runs in the top of the first inning for their only before Judson had a chance to bat.

Stefan Alinkas provided a strong showing for Judson going 6.2 innings with one strikeout and three earned runs. Phillip Stewart went 0.1 innings before John Banks finished the final two innings for his first career save. Banks gave up only one run with one strikeout facing six batters.

At the plate, Bret Ehrlich and Manny Bobadilla each had two hits as Bobadilla recorded two RBI. Williams had two RBI with his second home run of the year while Tim Victor, Ehrlich, and Trent Golz all had one RBI.

Trinity International struck first in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead. That did not last long as Judson responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Fischer started off the inning with a single to left field, stole second, and then came home on a Victor single up the middle for the first run. Two batters later, Williams hit a shot over the right field fence to move Judson in front, 3-2. Matt McHenry followed Williams with his sixth triple of the year and was brought home by a Bobadilla single up the middle. Judson scored four runs all with one out as the next two batters fouled out and grounded out to end the inning.

After three scoreless innings, Trinity International brought Judson's lead down to one, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning. Once again, Judson answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning with two outs as Chris Lucius touched home on an Ehrlich single.

Judson extended their lead in the eighth inning to five runs, 8-3. With two runners on and one out McHenry hit a towering pop up in the infield that was dropped and mass confusion broke loose after that. McHenry was out on the play but the pitcher then tried to throw out Williams at first base as Williams then advanced to second and Bostwick to third. On the same play, TIU then tried to throw Bostwick out at third base after the errant throw to first and Bostwick came home for the first run. Two batters later, Bobadilla reached on another TIU error to score Williams and then Trent Golz singled in Bobadilla for the final score of the game.

Trinity International did score one run in the top of the ninth. Keller started the inning with a triple but then Banks got the next three batters to ground out and end the game.

Owen Leflar took the loss for Trinity International going 7.2 innings with three strikeouts. TIU did out hit Judson, 12-10, and Dave Hardt led the Trojans with three hits.

Judson will travel to Bourbonnais, IL, on Friday, April 17th, to face Olivet Nazarene University in a single 9-inning game.
