Elgin, Ill. – Hosting a tri-meet between Cornerstone University (31-3) and Mt. Mercy College (7-17), the Judson University volleyball team (10-17) fell to both teams. Cornerstone went 2-0 on the day with wins over Judson and Mt. Mercy.

Mount Mercy 3, Judson 0 (30-16, 30-17, 30-16)

Judson started the day with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-17, 30-16) loss to Mt. Mercy. MMC raced out to a 5-1 lead in game one and never looked back. They took a nine-point lead, 17-8, and then went on for the 30-16 win. Game two brought the same outcome as MMC started with a 6-0 lead. JU was did not get any closer than five points, 6-1, before MMC took the 30-17 win. Game three showed more attack by Judson as they battled hard. Down 7-4, JU came back to tie the game at 15 on a kill by Jessie Fortner. The Eagles then took the lead and went up 23-19 on a MMC attack error. MMC, though, scored the next 11 out of 14 points for the win, 30-26.

Senior Kym Gagnon led JU with 13 kills while Carly Campioni had 31 assists. Both Rachel Pope and Gagnon recorded 11 digs.

Cornerstone 3, Judson 0 (30-13, 30-22, 30-20)

Trying to rebound in the second match of the day, JU faced a stiff Cornerstone team that was receiving votes in the national poll. Each game, JU improved but could not get past the Golden Eagles in three games, 30-13, 30-22, 30-20. After the game was tied at two in game one, CU ran off 10 straight points for a 12-2 lead and never looked back. Game two was the closest game for JU as the Eagles started off with a 4-2 lead. CU tied the game at four and then took a 12-9 lead. JU fought back to tie the game at 14 only to see CU score the next five points to make it 19-14. CU then went on for the 30-22 win. JU claimed a 14-9 lead early in game three only to see CU win 16 of the next 20 points for a 24-18 lead. CU then did not let JU any closer in the 30-20 win to take the match win.

Sophomore Danielle Dull had seven kills to lead JU with Campioni recording 23 assists. Pope added 14 digs.

Judson will travel to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Tuesday, October 16th, to face CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene at 7:30 p.m.
