Elgin, Ill. – Scoring nine goals in the first half, the Judson University women’s soccer team (8-5-1/5-3) cruised to a 10-2 win over Calumet-St. Joseph (0-15/0-7). This is the fifth win in a row for the Eagles.

Freshman Janee Romesberg (Rockwood, Penn.) led JU with a hat trick of three goals in the first half. The three goals were her first of the year. She picked up goals three straight goals in the 23rd, 27th, and 31st minutes of the match. Sophomore Christina Thornton (Algonquin, Ill.) had two goals for JU in the 3rd and 8th minute of the match.

Lynsey McFarland (Livingston, Scotland) scored the first goal of the match in the 3rd minute (2:41) and then Thornton added her first just 17 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Rebecca O’Donnell (Wheeling, Ill.) scored in the 7th minute followed by Thornton’s second goal in the 8th minute for a 4-0 advantage.

Emma Mugg (Shawnee, Kan.) made it 5-0 in the 19th minute which was followed by Romesberg’s three straight goals over an eight minute period. Senior Regan Sherwood (Caledonia, New York) scored her first career goal in the 37th minute to make it 9-0.

Calumet, playing with only nine players, made a push in the second half with two goals on three shots. Jorie Arnold netted the first goal in the 54th minute and then Stephanie Butler scored the second goal in the 71st minute. In between the goals, JU’s Andrea Pflaum (Bad Liebenzell, Germany) completed the Eagles’ scoring with their 10th goal.

Krystle Arizmendi (Elgin, Ill.) recorded three assists while both Sarah Schmitz (Elgin, Ill.) and Amber Bocquin (Shawnee, Kan.) had two assists. Judson had 43 shots with 29 on goal and held Calumet to just three shots. Calumet took all three shots in the second half. Calumet combined for 19 saves, too.

Judson will finish their regular season schedule on Tuesday, October 16th, when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., to face Cardinal Stritch in CCAC play.
