ELGIN, IL. - Breaking out of a two-game losing streak in fashion, Judson University (10-15/5-6) made Hoffer Day a special moment as they swept Illinois Tech (11-16/6-6) in CCAC play, 4-3, and 5-3. In each game, Judson had to stage a comeback for the win in both games. Kevin Fischer became the all-time career steals leader at Judson with a stolen base in game one to record his 38th career steal and surpass Woody Smith's 36 year old record.

On this day, Judson University recognized and honored the Hoffer family for their commitment to Judson baseball and for their recent donation for the new scoreboard. Bill Hoffer, son of Dr. Bob Hoffer in whom the baseball field is named after, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Judson backed up the special day with a total of 15 hits and nine runs scored. Zach Williams was the hero in game one hitting the game-winning home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make 4-3. Matt McHenry went 2-of-3 with two RBI in game two to propel Judson to the 5-3 win. Phillip Stewart won his first collegiate game in two innings of relief in game one while Trent Golz pitched a complete game in game two for the win.

Illinois Tech struck the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning but Judson was right there with them adding in the bottom of the inning. Zach Scipione grounded out to bring in Williams as he led off the inning with a triple. Judson then tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on a Tim Victor double scoring Fischer from second base with two outs.

In the top of the fourth inning, Illinois Tech reclaimed the lead by one run, 3-2. That lasted an inning and a half until Judson tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth. Fischer grounded out to bring home Chris Lucius to tie the game at three. An inning later, Williams hit the game winning home run for the win.

Ed Draper started the game and went five innings with three strikeouts and gave up three earned runs. Stewart finished the final two and did not give up any runs and only one hit.

Game 2

A strong pitching performance by Trent Golz gave the Eagles the two-run win. Golz scattered eight hits in seven innings but his gritty performance on the mound with only one walk and one strike out propelled Judson.

Judson scored first in the bottom of the second inning on a Royce Krueger single to right field scoring Williams. Illinois Tech answered right back with one run in the third and fourth innings for a 2-1 lead. Judson then erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and never looked back. Matt McHenry tripled to right center field bringing in both Williams and Bret Ehrlich to take the lead, 3-2. Royce Krueger then sacrificed his at-bat with a fly ball to right field to score McHenry for the two-run lead. Judson then added a run in the fifth inning to make it 5-2. Tim Victor singled in Fischer for the fifth run of the game. Illinois Tech picked up one run in the sixth to make it 5-3.

Ehrlich and McHenry both went 2-of-3 for Judson as McHenry had two RBI. Royce Krueger also had two RBI in the win.

Judson will continue CCAC play on Tuesday, April 7th, at Trinity International University with the game starting at 1:00 p.m.
