
ELGIN, IL. - Taking command in the first inning of game two on a Lizzy Jacobson three-run home run, Judson University (12-7/4-2) won their first-ever program win over Olivet Nazarene University (11-11/1-1), 7-3. Virginia McAndrews went the distance and recorded five strikeouts and no earned runs for her third win of the year. Judson fell in game one to Olivet Nazarene, 5-4. Olivet Nazarene was receiving votes in this week's latest NAIA softball poll.
Both Nicole Dimiceli and Carrie Sensor had four hits in the two games combined. Overall, Jacobson had four RBI, Dana Dimiceli had three RBI, and Nicole Dimiceli recorded two.
Out hitting Olivet Nazarene, 8-5, Judson University could not overcome leaving 12 runners on base and two errors that led to the one-run loss. Olivet Nazarene scored three runs in the second inning with two outs. Judson answered with one run in the bottom of the third inning when Dana Dimiceli grounded out to score Sensor.
Olivet Nazarene added one run in the fourth and fifth inning for a 5-1 lead but Judson came knocking in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Jacobson walked with the bases loaded to score the first run. Dana Dimiceli picked up her other two RBI with a single down the right field line bringing home both Nicole Dimiceli and Sensor. With only one out and two runners on, Judson was threatening but did not get the hit to bring in more runs.
Judson left the bases loaded in the fourth and had two runners left on in the first, third, fifth, and sixth inning.
Carrie Sensor went 3-of-3 with two runs scored to lead Judson in hitting. Dana Dimiceli had three RBI while Jacobson had one. Perez went two innings for the loss as Jacobson finished the final five innings and struck out two.
Coming out of the gates roaring, offensively, in the first inning, Judson put up three runs for an immediate impact. Two of Judson's first three batters (Sensor, N.Dimiceli) singled to get on base. Batting in the clean up spot, Jacobson lifted her fourth home run of the year to make it 3-0. Judson then added one run in the third inning when Nicole Dimiceli was picked off attempting to steal second as Sensor came home and beat the tag.
Olivet Nazarene made it 4-1 in the fourth inning but Judson added another three runs in the fifth inning for a 7-1 lead. Nicole Dimiceli squeaked a single up the middle that brought in both Concetta Lampugnano and Kristin Krueger for a five-run advantage, 6-1. Nicole Dimiceli came home for the seventh run when Dana Dimiceli reached on an Olivet Nazarene error.
Making the game interesting, Olivet Nazarene earned two runs in the top of the seventh inning. They scored both runs with two outs and had two runners on when Judson recorded the final out.
Nicole Dimiceli went 3-of-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Jacobson had three RBI on her home run. Kreuger had two hits for Judson and one run scored. McAndrews went the seven innings and won her third game of the year with five strikeouts, two walks, and no earned runs.
Judson will now travel to Wisconsin and face NCAA Division III Carthage College on Saturday, March 28th, at 1:00 p.m.
