ELGIN, IL. - Exploding for six runs in the fifth inning, Judson University (7-6) came from behind to defeat NCAA Division III Northland College, 6-5. Judson was down 5-0 after four innings of play before scoring all six runs in the fifth inning.

Victoria Perez came in relief and pitched 2.1 innings for the win and Viriginia McAndrews finished the final 1.2 innings for the save. Brianne Simmons started the game and went three innings.

Liz Jacobson and Concetta Lampugnano led Judson with two hits as Jacobson was 2-of-3 with two doubles and Lampugnano with one double. Jacobson, Carrie Sensor, Kristin Krueger, and Nicole Dimiceli all had one RBI.

Northland scored three runs in the second inning on three errors by Judson and then had two runs in the third to make it 5-0. Judson's offense was silent all the way through the first three innings. Judson did not have their first hit until the fourth inning with a double by Jacobson.

It was then in the fifth inning that the sleeping giants awoke for six runs. Samantha Gladen and Lampugnano started off the innings with two straight singles. After a Judson strikeout, Dana Dimiceli reached on an error to load the bases with one out. Sensor and Krueger then had back-to-back singles to bring home two runs to make it 5-2.

Nicole Dimiceli tied the game and made it to third base with an error by the shortstop that went into the outfield to clear the bases. Jacobson followed with her second double to bring home Dimiceli for the game winning run.

Northland threatened in the top of the sixth inning when the bases were loaded with just one out. McAndrews came into relieve Perez and had the first batter hit into a fielder's choice to get the runner out at home. McAndrews then recorded the first of three strikeouts to end the inning and get Judson out of the jam. She then struck out two of the three batters in the top of the seventh to pick up the save.

Judson will host Northland College in a double header at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21^st, at the JU Softball Complex.
