Judson 8, Wheaton 7 (8 innings) - Box
Judson 12, Wheaton 11 - Box

ELGIN, IL. - Jason Egli's pitching performances in both games for Judson University (4-8) pushed the Eagles to a sweep over Wheaton College (5-6), 8-7 and 12-11. Egli picked up both wins on the day to improve Judson to 4-8 on the year and complete the sweep of the NCAA Division III program.

Egli combined to pitch the final two innings of both games to earn two straight victories and improve to 2-4 on the year. On the day, he had five strikeouts and only gave up one earned run and one walk.

Overall, for hitting, Kevin Fischer led Judson with a 5-of-9 performance and four stolen bases. Matt McHenry was 4-of-8 with seven RBI and two doubles while Trent Golz was 4-of-7 and Royce Krueger was 4-of-6. Chris Lucius played a part in both wins with a sacrifice fly to win game one and then stole third and came home on a throwing error in game two for the winning run.

Game 1
Judson 8, Wheaton 7 - eight innings

Chris Lucius brought home the winning run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. That sacrifice brought home Jake Bostwick for the go-ahead run to end the game, 8-7.

Kevin Fischer went 3-of-5 with a double and two stolen bases to lead the team. Matt McHenry had a 2-of-4 performance with four RBI and four runs scored while Tim Victor, Trent Golz, and Royce Krueger all had two hits.

It was a roller coaster game as Judson scored runs in the first, third, fifth, and seventh and eighth innings. Judson took a 1-0 lead in the first but then Wheaton added three runs in the third. Judson answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one, 3-2, as McHenry picked up one of his four RBI. Wheaton hit Judson hard in the fifth inning with four runs for a 7-2 advantage but Judson fought right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-5. McHenry once again came through for two of the three runs with a double to left field. Golz then brought in McHenry with a single to make it 7-5.

Judson then tied the game at seven with the backs against the wall in the bottom of the seventh inning. With no outs and the bases loaded, Golz singled to third base to score Lucius to make it 7-6. Again, with the bases loaded, Mike Krueger hit into a double play but McHenry crossed the plate to tie the game at seven. Judson could not get in the go ahead run and went into the eighth inning.

In the top of the inning, Egli struck out the first batter and then gave up a single. The very next batter hit into a double play to end the inning. Tim Victor started off the bottom of the eighth with a single through the right side and then Jake Bostwick pinch ran for Victor. Bostwick advanced to second on the next play as Royce Krueger singled through the right side to put runners on first and second with no outs. Kevin Fischer laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases and advance the runners to set up Lucius' sacrifice fly to win the game, 8-7.

Scott Baier started the game and went 4.1 innings and gave up seven earned runs with six strikeouts. Phillip Stewart then went 1.2 innings with one strikeout and no runs before Egli finished the game for the win. He gave up only one hit in two innings of work and recorded four strikeouts.

Game 2
Judson 12, Wheaton 11

In exact same fashion as game one, Judson won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lucius singled to left field to start the inning. As McHenry was batting, Lucius advanced to second on a Chris Winchester wild pitch. On the very next pitch, Lucius stole third as the catcher was trying to pick him off at second and then advanced home because the throw to second went into centerfield.

Lucius led the team by going 3-of-4 from the plate with two runs scored. McHenry finished with three RBI and a double. Jake Bostwick finished with four RBI by going 2-of-3 and slamming a double.

Judson started off the game with four runs in the first inning as McHenry doubled in the first run. Zach Williams singled in Lucius to make it 2-0 and then two batters later Manny Bobadilla had a sacrifice fly to bring home McHenry for the third run. Williams was the final run to score in the inning on Golz single. Wheaton scored their first two runs in the top of the second and then made it 5-4 in the third inning.

Judson once again answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to retake the lead, 8-5. All four runs were scored with two outs. Royce Krueger singled in the first run and then Bostwick doubled to left field to add two more runs. Kevin Fischer finished up the scoring with a single that brought home Jeremy Winnan who pinch ran for Bostwick.

Wheaton charged back with another three runs at the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at eight. They then took the lead, 9-8, in the top of the fifth inning but Judson scored two at the bottom of the inning for a 10-9 advantage. McHenry singled in two runs with two outs to make it 10-9. That lead was short lived as Wheaton scored two of their own runs in the top of the sixth for a one-run lead, 11-10. Judson then retook the lead, 12-11, in the bottom of the inning. Bostwick came through again for both runs with a single to left field to score Golz and Bobadilla.

With each team trading runs, Wheaton tied the game at 12 in the top of the seventh inning. In what could have been a very strong inning for Wheaton, Judson's defense came through with the pitching of Egli. With only one out and runners on first and third, Wheaton had just tied the game at 12. Wheaton's Antal singled to centerfield and Dennison tried to make it home from second base and was thrown out at the plate for the second out. Whartnaby then fouled out to Bostwick behind the plate to end the inning.

Lucius then took over the bottom of the seventh with a wild pitch and an error to score the winning run.

Josh Banks started the game for Judson and went 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. He gave up eight runs in which four were earned. Scott Newton came on for 1.2 innings of relief and only gave up one run before Zac Phillips was charged with two runs in 0.0 innings of work. Egli then finished the final two innings for the win.

Judson will host Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday, March 19th, at 2:00 p.m.
