
MILWAUKEE, WI. - Gaining ground in the CCAC race for a championship, Judson University (14-10/5-2) stunned Cardinal Stritch (15-6/6-1), 84-80, handing the Wolves their first CCAC loss of the season. With the win, Judson is now just one-game behind both Cardinal Stritch and Trinity Christian in the race for the CCAC regular season championship. Cardinal Stritch is also receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division II poll.
Both Landon Skinner and Dewayne Robinson turned in double-doubles to help Judson to the upset win. With a 1:13 to go in the game, Cardinal Stritch was within three, 80-77, but Judson went 4-of-6 from the foul line to seal the win.
Dewayne Robinson led Judson with 26 points and 10 rebounds as his freshman counterpart had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Weber finished just two points shy of his career-high with 14 points while Ben Rayhorn added 11. Trey Triplett had 23 points for Cardinal Stritch.
After a 2-2 tie, Judson led for the majority of the first half. Judson had a 36-28 lead with 5:26 left in the half when Cardinal Stritch made a run. In just over two minutes, Cardinal Stritch outscored Judson, 11-2, to take a one-point lead, 39-38, for only their second lead of the half. Judson replied to Cardinal Stritch's run repeating with an 11-2 run to end the half and take an eight-point lead, 49-41. Weber had six of his 14 points in that run.
In the first eight minutes of the second half, Cardinal Stritch came within six, 60-54, as Judson kept their distance. After Cardinal Stritch made it 60-54, Dewayne Robinson scored the next three points to start a 12-2 run to push Judson to their largest lead of the game, 72-56, with 6:46 remaining. Of the 12 points scored in the run, Robinson had seven.
Just as Judson went to put the game away, Cardinal Stritch showed why they were the top team in the CCAC. The Wolves put together a 15-2 run in just over four minutes to come within three, 76-73, with 2:27 remaining. Weber made two free throws with 2:07 left to put Judson back up by five only to see Cardinal Stritch's Triplett make two of his own free throws to make it 78-75 at the 1:48 mark. Robinson made a jumper for a five-point lead but Triplett came right back to trim the lead back to three, 80-77, with 1:12 left. Dovydas Retkus faced the pressure with 40 seconds left to extend the lead back to five, 82-77. In the next 17 seconds, Cardinal Stritch missed two shots and then Robinson made one-of-two free throws for an 83-77 lead.
After Robinson made is free throw, Cardinal Stritch's three-point attempt missed and was rebounded by Judson's Nate McNeely. He was then fouled and made one-of-two free throws to give Judson a seven-point lead, 84-77, with just 17 ticks left on the clock. Cardinal Stritch made a last ditch effort with a three-pointer to cut the lead to four, 84-80, but time ran out as they dropped their first CCAC match of the season.
Judson made 54% of their shots and finished shooting only 29% from three-point land and 65% from the stripe. Cardinal Stritch only made 41% of their shots, 33% from beyond the arc and 72% from the free throw line. Judson out rebounded Cardinal Stritch, 39-26, but turned the ball over 19 times.
