HOLLAND, MI. - Trying to win the Hope College men's basketball tournament, Judson University's (9-8)drastic comeback fell short, 112-95, as they fell to Hope College (7-4). Judson was down by as many as 30 point but cut the lead to 10 with less than four minutes to go in the game. Hope College is a NCAA Division III program that finished third in the nation last year in the NCAA National Tournament and has gone to three straight NCAA National Tournaments.
Dewayne Robinson produced 30 points for Judson and Landon Skinner, who was named to the all-tournament team, canned 27 points to lead Judson. LeStan Hoskins led Judson with eight rebounds. Jesse Reimink had 25 points for Hope.
Hope College led from the opening bucket and built a 20-point halftime advantage, 63-43. By the 12:27 mark in the second half, they built a 30-point lead, 86-56. Judson fought back over the next eight minutes to cut the lead to 10, 96-86, with a 30-10 run. Robinson scored 12 of his 30 points in the run while Skinner scored nine. Robinson nailed two free throws with 3:56 left in the game to bring Hope's lead down to 10. Hope reeled off six points in 50 seconds to push their lead up to 16 points, 102-86. Judson did not get any closer than 16 from that point on.
Judson finished shooting 47% from the floor, 33% from three-point range, and 70% from the stripe. Hope shot a phenomenal 60% rom the floor, 41% from beyond the arc, and 75% from the free throw line. Hope out rebounded Judson, 41-35, and had more turnovers, 15, to Judson's 11.
Judson will be back in action on Wednesday, January 7th, when they host Cardinal Stritch in the CCAC opener at the Lindner Fitness Center.
