MISHAWAKA, IND. - Putting a strong fight against #2 Bethel College (14-0), Judson University (6-6) lost to the Pilots, 95-71, in the final game of the Gates Automotive Classic. Freshman Landon Skinner was named to the All-Tournament team.
Ben Rayhorn put up his first double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Judson. Josh Edwards led Judson with 19 points followed by Skinner's 18. Bethel's Ryne Lightfoot led all scorers with 28 points.
Judson made the opening bucket for their only lead of the game as Bethel College went on a 15-2 run for a 15-4 advantage. Bethel went on to take as large as a 20-point lead in the first half as Judson only shot 35% from the floor and 16% from the three-point line. Bethel had a 15-point lead at the half, 46-31.
Not backing down against the #2 team in the nation, Judson started the second half off strong. Judson cut Bethel's lead to eight just four minutes into the new half. That is as close as Judson would get as over the next 10 minutes the lead stayed at the double-digit mark. In the last five minutes of the game, Bethel put the clamps on Judson and took their largest lead of 24 with just over a minute left in the game.
Judson finished the game shooting 38% and 28% from the three-point line while making 50% (7-of-14) of their free throws. Bethel made 55% of their shots, 33% from beyond the arc, and went 16-of-27 from the free throw line (59%). Bethel out rebounded Judson, 44-39, and forced 29 Judson turnovers.
Judson will be back in action on Friday, December 19th, when they play in the Robert Morris Classic in Chicago against St. Francis (IL).
