Judson 74, Wheaton 64 - Box

ELGIN, IL - Juniors Aubrey Parsons (Sterling, IL) and Kristi Siemers (Bensenville, IL) led Judson University (7-5) with career-highs as the Eagles earned their first-ever program victory over Wheaton College (3-4), 74-64. Parsons recorded 21 points while Siemers had 14 points for career-highs.  Judson's win is the first in 12 meetings over Wheaton since the series started back in 1979-80.

"I'm very happy for the girls," says head coach Jim Cook. "I'm very happy for the program because this is the first time we have beat Wheaton. If we continue to keep our confidence in one another, we will be very successful."

Along with Parsons and Siemers, junior Kirstin Johns (Belvidere, IL) also scored in double figures with 12 points. Siemers scored 12 of her 14 points with four three-pointers and two free throws. Tiana Forrest (Elgin, IL) also had a career-high 10 rebounds to lead Judson. Kathleen Fidelia had 21 points for Wheaton.

The only two lead changes came in the first half as Judson started off the game with a 6-2 lead. Wheaton responded with a 6-0 run and a two-point lead, 8-6, at the 14:46 mark. Judson's Johns tied the game at eight (13:42) but Wheaton answered with another run. The Thunder had an 8-2 run over four minutes to take a 16-10 lead (9:40). In the next three minutes, Judson shot right back with a run of their own, 13-3, to retake the lead, 21-17. Parsons, Siemers, and Johns all hit three-pointers in that run. Judson never lost the lead after that run.

Wheaton cut the lead to one, 23-22, with 4:31 left in the half but Judson finished the half on a 12-3 run to take a 10-point lead at the half, 35-25.

Judson took their largest lead of 12, 41-29, just two and half minutes into the second half on a Johns three-pointer. In the next three minutes, Wheaton put together an 8-0 run to come within four, 41-37. By the 13:26 mark, Wheaton was within two, 43-41, but freshman Megan Boxberger (Overland Park, KS) canned a shot on Judson's next possession for a four-point lead. After Wheaton missed a three-pointer, the Thunder grabbed the rebound and again put Wheaton within two, 45-43. With 11:17 left in the game, Siemers hit one of her four three-pointers to start a 11-2 run and give Judson a five-point lead. By the 8:06 mark, Judson had an 11-point lead, 56-45, and control of the game.

Wheaton came within six, 68-62, with 44 seconds left in the game but that is as close as they would come. Judson hit all four of their free throws in the final minute from Siemers and Boxberger as the Eagles secured the win.

Judson will have a week off as they will next play on Saturday, December 13th, at Goshen (IN) College at 1:00 p.m.
