
ELGIN, IL - Turning up the heat on a cold night in Elgin, Judson University (6-5) used a strong defensive effort in a 72-34 win over Silver Lake College (2-6). Judson only allowed 14 points in the second half and did not let Silver Lake College make a basket the final four minutes of the game.
Everybody that dressed for the game for Judson played as three players were in double figures. Judson was led by Aubrey Parsons' (Sterling, IL) 13 points and was followed by Tiana Forrest (Elgin, IL) and Megan Boxberger's (Overland Park, KS) 11 points. For the sixth time this season, Alicia Rovertoni (Columbia, IL) had 10 or more rebounds as she collected 10 against Silver Lake.
"It was a good win for us, tonight," says Aubrey Parsons. "We have been struggling a little bit so I think we got it all together tonight."
Judson's defensive effort forced 26 turnovers and had 20 steals while holding Silver Lake to under 30% shooting on the floor. Silver Lake shot only 27% from the floor and 28% from beyond the arc. They also struggled from the foul line going 4-of-12 for 33%.
Silver Lake stayed close to Judson in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Lakers took the first lead of the game, 2-0, just a minute and a half into the game but then Forrest tied the game at two and then gave Judson the lead they never relinquished on two free throws (4-2). By the 12:23 mark, Judson had a 13-point lead on two free throws by Boxberger, 17-4. Silver Lake brought Judson's lead down to nine, 17-8, with 11:12 left in the first half and by the 8:14 mark the Lakers were within seven, 19-12.
Making a strong move to make the game interesting, Silver Lake came within three-points, 19-16, with just 7:50 left in the first half. At this point, Judson put on their running sneakers as they reeled off a 23-4 run to finish the half and take a 22-point lead into the half, 42-20.
Judson's lead stayed in the 20's until the 11:34 mark when Kim Peek (Springdale, AR) hit a layup for a 30-point lead, 53-23. Judson's last bucket of the game by Boxberger with 2:26 left gave the Eagles their largest lead of 38, 72-34.
Judson finished shooting 40% from the floor and 35% from three-point range while making 70% of their free throws. They also out rebounded Silver Lake, 44-40.
Judson will now host NCAA Division III Wheaton College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6th, in the Judson "Blue Out."
