Huntington, IN - In a very close and hard fought game, Judson University (4-4) falls to Huntington University (7-3) by a final score of 93-102. In a game with 12 ties and nine lead changes Judson was unable to come out on top.
In the first 7 minutes of the game the team battled hard leading to the score being tied on 6 separate occasions. Huntington would start to establish a lead after a 20-20 tie at in the 7th minute. They would slowly build their lead up to 11 when the score was 46-35 with about 4 minutes left to play in the half. Judson would then go on an 11-1 run over the next three minutes and close the game back to one point with a score of 47-46 with 1:18 remaining in the half. During this run Judson's Josh Edwards (Mapleton, IL) would score four of his 22 points. The run was capped off with a 3 pointer from Nate McNeely (Monmouth, IL). Judson would go into the half trailing Huntington by 2, 48-50.
Judson would come out in the second half and tie the game back up 50-50 with two free throws from Dovydas Retkus (Lithuania) in the first 17 seconds of the half. The two teams would exchange leads and ties for the next 10 minutes until Huntington would take the lead at 9:58 remaining in the half by a score of 69-71 and never release it. The 2 points by Huntington to break the tie were the start of a 19-3 run for Huntington over about the next five minute giving Huntington the largest lead of the game of 16 with the score now 72-88 at 5:06 remaining in the half. Judson would start to chip away at the lead getting it as low as 8 after a three pointer by Landon Skinner (Plano, TX) with just under two minutes left to play. The final score would be 102-93.
Leading all scorers was Landon Skinner with 25 for Judson. Also leading Judson in scoring was Josh Edwards had 22 points and Dovydas had 17 points. Judson was called for 31 fouls and three players foul out compared to Huntington being called for only 18. This allowed 36 of Huntington's points to come from their 44 free throws.
Judson will now return home on Tuesday, December 2nd to face Illinois Tech at 7:30 p.m.
