Northwestern College 68, Judson 67 - Box

ST. PAUL, MN. - Coming down to the final shot, Judson University (4-3) did not convert on their opportunities the last 20 seconds of the game as they fell to Northwestern College (2-0), 68-67. Landon Skinner's (Plano, TX) shot with one second left did not find the net as time expired.

Judson had four players in double figures and was led by Josh Edward's (Mapleton, IL) 21 points. Ben Rayhorn (Dakota, IL) added 13 followed by Skinner and LeStan Hoskins (Danville, IL) with 12 points each. Northwestern's Reid Berens had 19 points.

Playing an even game all the way through, both teams fought for the lead. In the game, there were 11 lead changes and five ties. Northwestern College opened up the game with an 11-6 lead in the first four minutes. Judson cut the lead to one, 11-10, but Northwestern College pushed their lead back to five, 17-12, with 11:30 left in the half. In the next three minutes, Judson answered with a five-point run to tie the game at 17 on a Nate McNeely (Monmouth, IL) three-pointer. Once again, Northwestern College ran right back at Judson with their own run reeling off six straight points to make it 23-17 at the 6:45 mark. On the next possession, Judson's Rayhorn canned a three-pointer to put Judson back within three, 23-20, and then put Judson within one, 25-24, with 5:34 left.

Northwestern College had a four-point lead, 30-26, with 4:27 left in the half only to see Judson go on a 7-2 run to take the lead for the first time since it was 6-5. Hoskins hit a jumper at the 2:41 mark to give Judson the lead, 33-32. Judson kept the lead for a minute and a half only to see Northwestern College score the final four points of the half for a 36-33 lead going into the locker room.

Judson started the second half on a 9-2 run for a 42-38 lead just three minutes into the new half. Rayhorn and Edwards both made shots to give Judson the lead. Skinner put Judson up by four to finish the run after he stole the ball and made a layup. Northwestern again fought back with an 8-0 run to retake the lead, 46-42, over three minutes. Northwestern then kept their lead over the next 12 minutes.

Judson would make moves to try and retake the lead but could never make the basket. Judson tied it twice in that time only to see Northwestern move to a six-point lead, 59-53, with 8:26 left. With 6:24 left, Northwestern still had a five-point lead, 64-59, but Judson went on an 8-2 run to take the lead, 67-66, on a Skinner layup with 2:43 left in the game. Just as it looked like Judson was going to take the momentum away, that shot was the final shot that Judson would make. Judson would miss their next four shots in that time and Northwestern hit a layup with nine seconds left in the game for the one-point advantage. Judson had a chance with six seconds and three seconds left to make shots but could not convert.

Overall, Judson shot 41% from the floor, 35% from the three-point line, and 75% from the stripe while Northwestern was 40% from the floor, 33% from beyond the arc, and 56% from the free throw line. Northwestern out rebounded Judson, 50-36, but turned the ball over 15 times to Judson's 12.

Judson will now play at Huntington University on Saturday, November 29th, in Indiana at 2:00 p.m.
