The last five minutes of the match was intense as there were a combined five yellow cards. Then in the 89th minute, when it looked as if Judson had tied the game, the goal was called off because Judson was offisides.
On a corner kick by ODU’s Chip Bailey in the second minute of the first half, the Cougars tapped in the only goal when Ryan Nelson connected with the ball. ODU pressured JU in the first half by out shooting them, 6-2.
A physical second half led to more offensive pressure by the Eagles. JU out shot ODU, 6-3, and had four shots on goal. The pressure was not enough, though.
Overall, 39 fouls were called in the physical match. There were nine eight yellow cards and one red card combined. ODU also had nine corner kicks as Judson did not take any at all. JU’s Neil Thompson recorded three saves in the loss.
Judson will host Columbia College (Mo.) at 2:00 p.m. in the second game of the day for the Judson Tournament.
