Elgin, IL.- Only in her third race of the season, freshman Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, IL) was given her second NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) Runner of the Week award. She her second meet of the season by claiming the medalist honor at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
Dean ran an18:39 in the 3K race to claim the medalist award. After a miscommunication by the Indiana Wesleyan meet manager, the Judson University women's cross country team had to run their race with the men for the first 2K before splitting off to finish the 3K race. Due to this, Dean ran part of the race with the men and the rest without any other runners around her. The starting time was moved up from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and was not communicated very well to Judson. In order for the women's team to run, they ran the course with the men's runner until the final mile.
Even with the confusion, Dean ran a personal best 18:39 to claim first place in the meet and was her second overall championship of the season. She won the Aurora University Invitational and finished third at Cedarville University.
Judson will now run on Friday, October 10th, at 3:30 p.m. in the Benedictine University Invitational.
