St. Xavier 2, Judson 1 - Box

Chicago, IL - A strong second half from St. Xavier University (3-5/1-0) led to a 2-1 win over Judson University (4-3/0-1) in the CCAC men's soccer opener. Judson didn't score their lone goal until the 89th minute of the match. Judson head coach Steve Burke still needs three more wins to break the all-time career wins record for the NAIA.

The first half was back and forth as the teams battled to a 0-0 tie. It was a defensive battle as Judson only took two shots to St. Xavier's three. St. Xavier took two of their first three shots in the first 12 minutes of the match. Judson had a chance to take a lead in the 42nd minute but Jason Parmentor's (Lincoln, IL) hit the post.

In the second half, Judson tried early for the lead, again, but Vitor Bravo's (Brazil) shot in the 57th minute went wide. Just one minute later, in the 58th minute, St. Xavier's Melchor Castro made it 1-0 on a 15-yard shot from the left side. St. Xavier continued to take shots as they had seven in the second half. In the 73rd minute, St. Xavier made it 2-0 when a shot went in off a deflected cross into the box.

It was not until the 89th minute that Judson's Adauto Oliveira (Brazil) netted Judson's only goal off a free kick from 30-yards out.

It was a rough match as each team had 15 fouls each and eight yellow cards were pulled. St. Xavier out shot Judson, 10-4, overall. Judosn's Cristiano Costa (Brazil) took the loss and had two saves while St. Xaviers's Ian Pickett had one save.

Judson will host Bethel College (IN) on Saturday, September 27th, in the Homecoming match
