
"This was a good challenge for this program," says head coach Rich Weinhandl. "We ran with some of the best programs in the country and our goal was to finish in the top 10. The women finished eighth and the men were just 27 points from the top 10. I am very pleased with this as both of the teams continue to improve each week. Great things are happening with these teams and their confidence is getting better."
On the women's side, Judson finished with 234 points for eighth place and was the second highest NAIA school behind Shawnee State who won the meet with 44 points. Judson was running against NCAA Division I and III runners along with other NAIA programs at the meet.
Dean took the third spot of 174 runners with a time of 19:01 to lead Judson. This is the second week in a row she has had a top five finish as she won the Aurora Invitational on September 12th. Finishing as the second runner for Judson was Abbie Dupont (Springfield, IL) in 40th with a time of 21:06. Also finishing in the top 50 was Sandra Hubbard (Hickory Hills, IL) in 47th at 21:21. Lisa Reitz (Oak Lawn, IL) had a time of 23:14 followed by Sharon Hubbard (Hickory Hills, IL) at 23:52 and Dianna Clark (Fairbury, IL) at 25:35.
The men collected 294 points and was the sixth best NAIA team of the 20 teams. They also ran against some great competition from NCAA Division I and III programs along with NAIA programs. DeBall was Judson's top runner as he was the 48th runner to cross the 8K race at 28:04. Just 27 seconds behind him was Dakota West (Antioch, IL) in 64th with a time of 28:31. Nick Sustersic (Palos Hills, IL) finished with at time of 28:59. Rounding out the final four runners for Judson were Ethan Hahn (Lake Villa, IL) at 29:06, Thomas Jarrett (St. Louis, MO) at 29:48, Robert Altenburger (West Salem, OH) at 29:55, and Nate Faulkner (Davis, IL) with 31:16.
Judson will now have a two week layoff until they run at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on October 4th, in Marian, Ind.
