Judson 3, Grand View 1 - Box

Elgin, IL - In rough fashion, the Judson University Eagles (1-1) men's soccer team earned their first victory of the 2008 season with a 3-1 win over Grand View College (1-1). In the pre-season NAIA national poll, Grand View was receiving votes and would be 28th in the nation overall.

Petar Bajic (Serbia) put on a show for Judson with two goals each in the first half to power Judson with the win. By winning this game, head coach Steve Burke is now just six wins away from becoming the all-time career wins leader for NAIA men's soccer. Burke has 432 career wins and is in his 25th year at Judson.

Bajic collected his first goal of the game just three minutes into the match to make it 1-0. It was only four minutes later that Grand View's Mirsad Kazic tied the game at one. Bajic then worked his magic again in the 30th minute to break the tie as Judson took the lead for good, 2-1.

Judson added an insurance goal in the 58th minute when Gustavo Oliveir (Brazil) dribbled through three defenders to pick up his first goal of the season.

Judson's Cristiano Costa (Brazil) received his first start in goal and produced five saves. Grand View's Darren Martin had one. Grand View out shot Judson, 12 to eight, and also had 14 fouls to Judson's nine. There were also eight yellow cards in the match with four going against each team.

Judson will now play at Taylor University (IN) on Friday, September 5th, in Upland, Indiana, at 4:00 p.m.
