Des Moines, Iowa - Diego Cevallos and freshman Ashley Williams both opened up their collegiate careers with a bang as Judson University shut out Grand View College, 3-0, in the first match of the 2008 season. In his coaching debut, Cevallos picked up his first collegiate win. Williams, from Huntley, Ill., scored her first collegiate goal to make it 3-0.
Also making her collegiate debut with success was freshman goalie Mackenzie Fowler (Crosby, Texas). She recorded her first collegiate shutout while stopping 15 shots.
All-American Christina Thornton (Algonquin, IL) put Judson on the board first with a goal just two minutes into the match. Lynsey McFarland (Livinston, Scotland) assisted on the shot to make it 1-0.
Janee Romesburg (Rockwood, PA) netted her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to make it 2-0 on a pass from Kathryn Pansino (Elgin, IL). Williams, just 10 minutes later in the 83rd minute, scored her first goal of the season unassisted as she made it 3-0. There were a combined 46 shots between the two teams with Grand View taking 25 and Judson 21. Judson's Fowler stopped 15 and Grand View's Shields-Smith recording nine saves.
Judson had nine fouls to Grand View's five and had five corner kicks to Grand View's four.
Judson will be back in action on Saturday, August 30th, when they play #10 Graceland (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
