Elgin, Ill. - Adding another local standout for women's soccer, Judson University interim head coach Diego Cevallos has added Maine West's Betsy Barthel to the roster. Barthel will join Chicagoland players Angie Kosar (Geneva HS) and Megan Hamm and Ashley Williams (Huntley HS).

Barthel is a two-time all-conference player for Maine West while being a four-year varsity letterwinner. In her freshman season, she helped guide Maine West to the most wins in school history with 15 and also recorded the most shutouts in a season, too. In her freshmen season, she also received the newcomer of the year award. Last year, she was named to the All-Sectional team. This year, she was awarded the CSL Scholar-Athlete award. She also has participated in basketball, volleyball, and cross country.

She has played for both the Green-White Mount Prospect club team and the Lake Zurich Premier club team Ela Premier.

At Maine West, Barthel is a part of Peer Mediators, Varsity Club, The Tribe, and P.E. Leaders. She has received the "Student of the Quarter" award for Family and Consumer Science, the social science award, and the Gold Medal for the FCCAL State Competition in story telling. She is the daughter of Paul and Ruth Bartel and plans on majoring in physical education.

Judson is coming off one of their finest seasons, ever, as they won their first-ever CCAC Tournament Championship and were the #1 seed in the NAIA Region VII tournament.
