Elgin, Ill. - - -  Judson University men's tennis opened their 2017 season with a win over Goshen College this past Saturday. The Eagles have been working extremely hard during their pre-season week to be prepared for what would appear to be a very competitive match for the Eagles. The Eagles narrowly beat Goshen last year when they travelled to their courts to take the win with a 5-4 victory. Knowing the teams were fairly evenly matched, the Eagles had been spending a lot of time mentally preparing as well as taking their conditioning up a notch this year in preparation of a very competitive season in the Fall.

The Eagles opened with a complete sweep of the doubles teams with No.1 doubles team of John Mittvick & Elisha Hougland taking the win with a decisive 8-2 win over Goshen. The No. 2 doubles team of Christopher Veltkamp and Riley Rowan No. 2 doubles team took the next point with an 8-5 win over their opponents and No. 3 doubles team of Michael Bruen & Joshua Gronowski wrapped up the third point with an 8-6 win.

As the singles matches started, the Eagles started to dominate the matches. No. 1 singles player John Mittvick easily won with scores of 6-1, 6-1, while Elisha Hougland won at No.2 with scores of 6-3, 6-4. The sixth and final point was brought in by newcomer to the team, Christopher Veltkamp. Veltkamp showed that he is definitely ready for higher level tennis as he won the last point with scores of 6-0, 6-0 over his opponent.

The Eagles have a fairly busy and competitive season this fall with matches all over Indiana and Kentucky. The Eagles schedule was developed to put the men's team up against some of the best college tennis teams in the surrounding area and they are looking forward to a great season and many exciting matches.
