ELGIN, Ill. - - -  Judson University Men's Tennis wrapped up the 2016-2017 season. After having one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Eagles lost in the second round of the CCAC tournament 5-3 to No.19 ranked Olivet Nazarene University. Having faced the Tigers only a week ago  the Eagles came into this second round with the intensity to play at a new level.

The Eagles were able to dominate the doubles matches with wins at No.1 (John Mittvick (JR/South Elgin) & Elisha Hougland (JR/Hampshire, IL)) and No.3 (Carlos Clerins (SO/Spain) & Riley Rowan (FR/Algonquin, IL)). The Eagles were in the same position they were in during their regular season matches, so they knew they had it in their grasp to grab three out of the six singles matches for the win and the opportunity to play for a conference championship. The Eagles dropped their singles matches at No.3, No.4 and No.5 spots, but No.1 singles player, John Mittvick picked up a big win for his career over No.34 Alfonso Martinez in an easy straight set victory to grab the third point for the Eagles. The Tigers now had a 4-3 advantage over the Eagles with two matches still in play. Erik Jorsal (FR/Mudgeeraba, QLD Australia) was battling at the No. 2 singles spot with his opponent that forced a third set while Riley Rowan was battling back to force a third set. As both teams were anxiously watching both matches, Jorsal's opponent soon was able to secure the third set that gave the Tigers the fifth point needed to secure the win and advance to the CCAC conference championship. Rowan's match was stopped because of ONU winning the match.

ONU has been consistently in the NAIA rankings and had strong teams all season. It was very encouraging for Coach Moment to see his Eagles perform at the level they did against a top ranked team as they prepare for the NCCAA National Championship that they will be attending next week in Mobile, Alabama.

The Eagles program has had some great accomplishments this year with a constant appearance in the Top 10 ranking for Christian colleges and breaking into the categories of receiving votes for the NAIA rankings.

As the CCAC season closes, Judson's very own No. 1 singles player was voted to the 2017 CCAC All Conference singles team and Judson's No.1 doubles team of John Mittvick & Elisha Hougland were nominated to the 2017 CCAC All Conference doubles team. These players were voted in by their entire group of CCAC head coaches for their impressive accomplishments during the CCAC conference season. Our congrats go out to John Mittvick & Elisha Hougland
