ELGIN, Ill. - - - The Eagles were in action this weekend at several different meets that generated some big performances from Ben Simpson (FR/Winslow, IL) in his decathlon debut and Dan Becker (SO/Sheboygan, WI) in the pole vault event.

Simpson competed at the UW LaCrosse Phil Esten Challenge last Thursday and Friday and scored a Judson program record 4062 points in the two day, ten event competition. Simpon's point total established a new JU decathlon standard shattering the old mark of 3001 points. Dan Becker, former Wisconsin state champion, set a new JU record in the pole vault Tuesday clearing 4.60m at the Lewis Twilight Meet. Becker's vault breaks his own school record set earlier in the month and meets the NAIA "B" standard for Outdoor Nationals.

"I'm so happy for Dan and his coach Jeff Zoellick. Dan is a tireless worker and we knew when he came to Judson he had the talent and drive to compete on a national level," stated coach Joel Popenfoose. "When you consider the obstacles he has overcome to hit the qualifying mark it is even more impressive. Ben shares that same type of work ethic. Our coaches, Kilee Hoffman, Bisrat Kidane and Jeff Zoellick have done outstanding work with Ben and deserve all the credit in the world for his strong start."

The Eagles compete this weekend at the UW Whitewater Drake Alternative meet in their final tune up for the CCAC Outdoor Championships.
