WHEATON, Ill. - - - Two new records were established and several NCCAA qualifying marks met as the Eagles competed Saturday at the Wheaton Invitational. Dan Becker (SO/Sheboygan, WI) improved on his own pole vault record and placed 3rd with a jump of 4.57m. Becker's vault met the NCCAA qualifying standard and ranks him No.3 in the NCCAA. Becker was just three centimeters shy of qualifying for the NAIA 'B' standard.
Robert Bruns (JR/St. Joseph, MO) broke his own school record and also met NCCAA qualifying standards in the 3000m steeplechase. Bruns finished 7th in his specialty and his time of 10:09.50 ranks him No.14 in the NCCAA. "The weather cooperated Saturday and we enjoyed some strong performances," remarked head coach Joel Popenfoose. "Becker is right on the verge of hitting that NAIA qualifying mark and Rob just keeps chipping away in the Steeplechase."
Other top finishes included Jon Sanders (JR/Carol Stream, IL) and Drew Talbot (SR/Johnsburg, IL) in the javelin throw as Sanders placed 5th with a toss of 41.40m while Talbot placed 8th with a best throw of 40.20m. Andrew Allen (SO/Milford, IL) threw 37.39m to grab 8th place in the Discus.
