NCCAA NC Region "Coach of the Year"

Elgin, Ill. – Adding awards to their already fine season, the Judson University baseball team received awards from both the CCAC and the NCCAA. Judson had a region coach of the year and freshman of the year in the awards.

Head coach Rich Benjamin received the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) North Central Region "Coach of the Year" award for guiding Judson to an 18-25 record in his first season. He helped Judson to their first-ever CCAC Touranment Championship and an at-large bid to the NAIA Region VII Tournament.

In the CCAC, Judson took home two awards in Kyle Kobernus (Naperville, Ill.) and Oscar DePablas (Venezuela). Kobernus was named to the All-CCAC Honorable Mention team with a 6-5 record and 60 strikeouts. He was 5-1 in the CCAC and took a key win over Purdue-North Central. DePablos was named the CCAC "Freshman of the Year" for his all-around play. He finished the season batting .418 with four triples and 18 RBI. He was third in the CCAC in batting and triples.

Gaining NCCAA All-Region awards were Kobernus, DePablos, and Brett Ehrlich. Ehrlich was third on the team in batting at .322 and led the team in doubles with 14 and had 30 RBI.

Judson had their finest season in the history of the program by claiming the CCAC Tournament Championship, gaining an at-large bid to the NAIA Region VII Tournament, tying the school record for CCAC wins (12), and tying the record for consecutive victories (9). The team also broke and tied several team and individual records this season, too.
