CHICAGO, Ill. - - - The men's track & field team opened their outdoor season Saturday afternoon under sunny skies at the University of Chicago Ted Haydon Invitational. Dan Becker (SO/Sheboygan, WI) recorded the Eagles first win of the Outdoor season in the pole vault clearing 4.30m. Jordy Arriaga and Robert Bruns (JR/St. Joseph, MO) both impressed in the distance events with Bruns placing 4th in the 5,000m run (16:17.82) and Arriaga running 9:10.54 and placing 6th in the 3,000m run.

The 4 x 400m relay team of Arriaga, Joseph Sipiorski (SO/Algonquin, IL), Erik Tiscareno (FR/Franklin Park, IL) and Caleb Fletcher (JR/Lake Fenton, MI) also recorded a top finish running 3:37.57 to finish 5th overall. Joining Becker with top finishes in field events were Stephen Galloway (SR/LaPorte, IN) who finished in a tie for 7th in the high jump with a best jump of 1.70m, Jon Sanders (JR/Carol Stream, IL) and Drew Talbot (SR/Johnsburg, IL) with 6th (42.66m) and 8th place (41.70m) finishes in the javelin throw, and Andrew Allen (SO/Milford, IL) who threw 39.28m to place 8th in the discus. Coach Popenfoose remarked, "This was a good meet to clear off the cobwebs and return to competition. We can always count on Dan to get us started off on the right foot. We have some athletes fighting through nagging injuries right now but were still able to record performances we can build on both in the field and on the track."

The Eagles continue the outdoor season next weekend in Wheaton, Illinois at the Wheaton Invite. First events set to start at 11:00am.
