ORLANDO, Fla. - - - The Judson University Men Tennis has come out strong in their first two matches in Florida with two consecutive wins. The Eagles started off their Spring Break action against Piedmont College, which proved to be a challenge on many of the courts. The Eagles were able to sweep the doubles matches with wins at all spots, but the Eagles' singles matches struggled at a few spots. The doubles winners were John Mittvick (JR/South Elgin) & Elisha Hougland (JR/Hampshire, IL), Joshua Gronowski (JR/Streamwood, IL) & Carlos Clerins (SO/Spain), and Riley Rowan (FR/Algonquin, IL) & Michael Bruen (JR/Canberra, Australia). As the Eagles entered the singles matches, a few of the players were able to easily overcome their opponents at the No.2 spot with Elisha Hougland, No.6 spot with Riley Rowan, and Carlos Clerins at No.4 singles. The losses for the Eagles were at No.1 singles with John Mittvick playing extremely well against his opponent and No.5 and No. 3 singles spots losing in a third set tie breaker by Joshua Gronowski and Michael Bruen.

 

The Eagles headed to the USTA National Tennis Center to play their own respective NCCAA regional qualifying match against the University of Northwestern - St. Paul Golden Eagles. The Judson kept their domination of the courts going into the evening under the lights and swept all matches in straight sets by all. The doubles winners were: John Mittvick & Elisha Hougland, Carlos Clerins & Joshua Gronowski, Erik Jorsal (FR/Mudgeeraba, QLD Australia) & Riley Rowan. The singles winners were John Mittvick, Elisha Hougland, Michael Bruen, Carlos Clerins, Joshua Gronowski and Riley Rowan.

 

The Eagles face off against Cedarville University and will be back at the USTA National Tennis Center at 11:30am EST. The matches can still be live streamed on the playsight.com website.
