LAKE MYRTLE PARK, Flor. - - - The Eagles' pitching was key in the 6-4 win against Mt. Vernon Nazarene Monday afternoon to improve the team to 2-0 early into their Spring Break trip. The past two games have featured strong starts followed by great performances out of the bullpen.

Thomas Goodyear (SR/Romeoville, IL) got his first start of the season and pitched six strong innings to improve to 1-0 overall. Goodyear would only allow two earned runs while allowing six hits, two walks, and striking out six batters. Overall, Goodyear now holds the third lowest ERA on the team with a 2.45 and has held opponents to a .207 batting average. Out of the bullpen, Dan Gerke held MVNU to only two hits in two innings while the Eagles' offense was able to tack on two more runs for a 6-3 lead heading into the ninth. Conor Grove (JR/Frankfort, IL) would come in for another inning of work and tallied his second save in two games. Despite being out-hit by Mt. Vernon, the pitching staff held great composer to limit big innings while stranding nine MVNU runners on base.

On the offensive end the Eagles got a big boost from the middle of the order as Cullen Mayhew (JR/Gatesville, IL), David Matthews (JR/Chicago, IL), and Sam Visconti tallied three of Judson's six runs and four of the team's six RBI. Matthews would lead the middle of the order going 1-for-2 with a walk while scoring twice and hitting in two runs. Mayhew would go 1-for-3 with an RBI and Visconti hit 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. The Eagles tallied only seven hits but made use of four MVNU errors and successful sacrifice situations.
