BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - - - The Judson men's indoor track and field squad traveled to Bourbonnais, Illinois Friday and Saturday to compete in the inaugural CCAC Indoor Championships.  Competing against an excellent field of top ranked NAIA schools, the Eagles scored 28 points and finished in 6th place overall.  While there were many strong performances over conference weekend, the Eagles lone winner was defending outdoor champion pole vaulter Dan Becker (SO/Sheboygan, WI).  Becker cleared 4.27m in the men's pole vault and won a vault-off to earn his second CCAC title.

A number of indoor records fell over the weekend as well.  The quartet of Caleb Fletcher (JR/Lake Fenton, MI), Jordy Arriaga (SR/Prospect Heights, IL), Joe Sipiorski and Dietrich Heiss (JR/Beloit, WI) established a new Judson standard in the 4 x 800m relay.  Their runner-up time of 8:09.66 marks the first time a JU men's relay has broken the 8:10 barrier indoors.  Sipiorski also established a new record in the 1,000m run with a time of 2:36.35 and Michael Ford (FR/Rockford, IL) bested his own shot put record again, throwing 14.21m and finishing 6th.

Other notable performances for the Eagles included Arriaga who placed 7th in the mile run (4:34.08), Arriaga, Sipiorski, Fletcher and Lawson Drinkwater (SO/San Marcos, CA) placed 7th in the 4 x 400m relay (3:41.15), Sipiorski finished 8th in the 600m run (1:25.45), Andrew Allen (SO/Milford, IL) 8th in the weight throw(12.81m), and Ben Simpson (FR/Winslow, IL) finished 8th in the Heptathlon (2398).

"The CCAC is a tremendous conference but our men are tough competitors," quoted head coach Joel Popenfoose. "From two time champion Dan Becker to first time conference competitors like Ford and Simpson, our guys put forth tremendous effort.  Between JU records and personal bests there were countless great performances this weekend.  We barely missed finishing in the top half of the CCAC and can't wait until Outdoors so we check that goal off."

The Eagles open their 2017 outdoor T&F season April 1st at the Ted Haydon Invitational.
