HANOVER PARK, Ill. - - - The Judson University men's tennis team sweeps the singles matches over Millikin to win 7-2 in the 2017 home opener. Despite losing two out of the three doubles matches, the Eagles were able to gather their thoughts and sweep all singles matches for the victory Saturday afternoon.
John Mittvick (JR/South Elgin) and Elisha Hougland (JR/Hampshire, IL) at No.1 doubles were able to secure the first point of the match with an 8-4 win. While Joshua Gronowski (JR/Streamwood, IL) & Carlos Clerins (SO/Spain) No.2 doubles and Michael Bruen (JR/Canberra, Australia) & Riley Rowan (FR/Algonquin, IL) No. 3 doubles were in close matches, they were unsuccessful in grabbing the two points for doubles. Heading into the singles matches, Judson was down 2-1. The experience and smart play for all the singles players is what seemed to make the difference they all swept their opponents in straight sets. Michael Bruen at No.3 singles and Joshua Gronowski at No. 5 singles both dropped their first sets, but played amazing second sets to bring their matches to a tie breaker. They were both successful in doing their part to win the tie breakers that aided the team's 7-2 win over Millikin University. The singles winners were John Mittvick, Elisha Hougland, Michael Bruen, Carlos Clerins, Joshua Gronowski and Riley Rowan.
The Eagles travel to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday to face off against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia Wisconsin.
