ELGIN, Ill. - - - The softball team is shaping up for the new season welcoming nine new players to the squad for the 2016-2017 season. The new players come in to replace a talented, graduated senior class and a mixture of both nine veteran Eagles and the nine newcomers are shaping the program for the upcoming season.

Judson opens in the Fall playing at the Kankakee Community College Round Robin Tournament on September 25th. Judson will then finish their Fall schedule against Rock Valley College on October 1st, and Sauk Valley CC on October 15th.

The Eagles welcome true freshmen Lauren Herlihy (FR/Frankfort, IL), Skye Osborne (FR/Romeoville, IL), Olivia Bartholomew (FR/Pontiac, IL), Kendall Leahy (FR/Bloomingdale, IL), and Brooke Tallard (FR/Belvidere, IL) and transfer players Diamond Owens (SO/Oswego, IL), Stephanie Stefancic (JR/Wilmington, IL), Kassi Gaylord (SO/Burlington, IL), and Kate Peterburs (FR/South Elgin, IL).

Kate Peterburs will be a long ball hitter for Judson coming off of a double-digit homerun season while at Elgin Community College. Peterburs has a lot of power and authority on the ball and will look to start at third base for the Eagles.

Transfers Stephanie Stefancic and Diamond Owens are two lefty pick-ups that will add speed and provide a three-dimensional presence at the plate for run execution.

But be on the watch for true freshman Skye Osborne who will also provide a powerful bat in the offense and versatile defensive abilities. Osborne was awarded All-Area and All-Conference honors in two consecutive years in high school.

On the pitching side, Judson looks to replace multiple record holder and NCCAA All-American Brianna Tennyson in both Lauren Herlihy and Kassi Gaylord. Herlihy comes in at 5'10" as a versatile player that helped her high school team to a fourth place finish and second place finish in state in consecutive years (2014, 2015). Gaylord is another transfer looking to help staff the Eagles in the circle who was awarded All-Conference and All-Area in 2014 and 2015 and transfers in from Elgin Community College.

Other newcomers include Kendall Leahy, Brooke Tallard, and Olivia Bartholomew who will bring fresh talent and experience with great work ethic that will round out a deep roster.

The roster will also see nine returners for the Eagles that have all accumulated great experience and they will look to lead this team into another successful season. Judson returns Elizabeth Walker (SR/Olney, IL), Ashley Quinlan (SR/Oak Lawn, Ill.), Sydney Reid (SO/Wapello, IA), Hannah McDowell (SO/Eupora, MS), Mary Emington (SR/Cadillac, MI), Sarah Friedlund (JR/Dekalb, IL), Lauren King (SR/Elgin, IL), Nicolette Chapa (SR/Lake in the Hills, IL), and Rachel Joos (JR/Genoa, IL). Over the last three season these Eagles have helped the team to a 87-64 record including two NCCAA Softball World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015.

"I am very excited about the dynamic makeup of this team," said head coach Venus Taylor. "We have brought in a mix of talented freshman and junior college transfers to provide us with speed, power and depth for the upcoming season.  I am extremely impressed with their work ethic as well as their attitude towards improving themselves to compete at a high level." Coach Taylor returns for her third season at the helm.
