Wilberforce, Ohio (Thursday, Jan. 7th) Lewis Arena –

The men's basketball team traveled to Wilberforce, Ohio for a non-conference match-up against the Wilberforce University Bulldogs. What ensued was a shooting clinic that left the Eagles on the losing end of a close 87-82 battle.

The 1989-90 Judson basketball team holds the record for most 3-pt shots made in a single game as they put in 19 shots from behind the arc. Last year, the 2014-15 squad put up 52 points in a half and tied the single game record with 19, 3-pt shots made against Trinity International.

The sharp shooting 2015-16 Judson team was at it again against Wilberforce hitting 18, 3-pt shots coming up one shy of tying the record for a second consecutive year.

The only thing slowing down Judson in Thursday's game was Wilberforce's own shooting clinic as they finished 54 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3-pt range.

Wilberforce jumped out to an early lead going up 13-5 in the first five minutes of the game.  The Eagles would come as close as three points and trail by as much as 11 points with 3:30 left in the first half. Judson shot 7-for-18 from 3-pt range and 40 percent from the field but still trailed by seven after 20 minutes of play; A normally good shooting half if not for Wilberforce going 71.4 percent from 3-pt range and 62.1 percent from the field.

Drew Makiewicz (JR/Vandalia, OH) (25pts, 4rbs) helped the Eagles stay within striking distance going 7-for-13 from 3-pt range and 9-for-18 from the field. In the second half Makiewicz hit five from behind the arc. The record for most 3-pt shots made by a single player in a game is 9 and was tied by Luke Pearson (SR/Thorntown, IN) last season in the teams record tying game against TIU.

Pearson (18pts) would not be left out, as he would go 6-for-12 from 3-pt and 6-for-14 from the field. Makiewicz would pass off the good shooting vibes to Pearson in the second half as Luke hit four, 3-pt shots in a row for a 12 point swing that put Judson up 71-70 with five minutes left in the game.

Wilberforce responded with a couple baskets and two 3-pt shots for a quick 8-0 run that quickly cooled the hot shooting of Judson. Despite outscoring Wilberforce 44-42 in the second half, the Eagles were just out of range climbing back to within five points as time expired.

Other notables included Justin Allen (JR/South Elgin, IL) (12pts) going 2-for-3 from 3-pt range, and Cody Thomas (JR/Waveland, IN) getting all nine of his points going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.

Judson will now cross the border to South Bend, Ind. to return to CCAC action against Indiana University-South Bend on Saturday, January 9th starting at 3:00pm(EST).
