After a program best start of 6-1 earlier this season, 2016 is a fresh start for the men's basketball team. At now two games under .500, the Eagles are looking to make a push for the second half of the season. In the first conference game of 2016, Judson came out strong against a tough 5-1 Saint Xavier squad. Despite a 75-71 loss, the Eagles created great opportunity to win in the final seconds of the game.

Rebounding was the key to Judson's success throughout the game. The Eagles out-rebounded SXU 42 to 26 and created 17 second chance points. Illya Galloway (JR/Lansing, IL) was the big man in the middle grabbing 11 total rebounds and 12 points for his first double-double of the season. Galloway ranks No.11 in the NAIA for offensive rebounds per game (3.4) and it was an offensive boost for Judson late in the contest.

Justin Allen (JR/South Elgin, IL) and Drew Makiewicz (JR/Vandalia, OH) capitalized off those second chance points scoring 17 and 12 total in the game combining 11-for-22 from the field. Many offensive rebounds were fed right back to Galloway as Luke Pearson (SR/Thorntown, IN) found a team high five assists to the big man. The team finished with 15 assists on the night.

Judson put themselves in a good position near the end of the game as the Eagles were up 71-69 on SXU with two minutes left. The Cougar's Larry Motuzis hit a couple big shots and free throws to go ahead 73-71 (Motuzis finished with 31 points). Judson fouled and SXU's Tony Core missed the free throw for JU to have a final chance in the remaining 24 seconds. Miss communication led to a shot clock violation and Motuzis put the game away hitting two free throws with no time left for Judson.

The Eagles are now 7-9 overall and 1-7 in the CCAC. Judson will get a break from conference as they face Wilberforce University on Thursday, January 7th at 4:30pm.The game will be broadcasted on http://www.gemcitysports.com/radio-3/
