Elgin, Ill.- Scoring within the first minute of the half, the Judson University women’s soccer team (1-0) cruised to a 4-1 victory over Bethel College (0-4).  This was the season opener for the Eagles.

Sophomore Christina Thornton (Algonquin, Ill.) netted three goals to lead the Eagles with her first of the season coming just seconds into the game.  She scored the first goal of the game just 37 seconds in.

Bethel tied the game at one in the 26th minute and held the tie until the 44th minute when Thornton dribbled around the defenders in the box for her second goal of the day and a 2-1 advantage at the half.

It was not until the 58th minute that Thornton recorded her third goal when she had a breakaway at midfield as freshman Lynsey McFarland (Livingston, Scotland) found her wide open to make it 3-1.  Junior Monique Blanco (Glendale Heights, Ill.) netted the final goal of the day in the 62nd minute as she drilled a shot from 30-yards out to make it 4-1.

Junior Rebecca O’Donnell (Wheeling, Ill.) started her first game in goal and recorded four saves on seven shots.  JU outshot BC 20-7 and had more corner kicks (8-2).

Judson will travel to Iowa on Wednesday, September 5th, to play Graceland at 6:00 p.m.
