Elgin, Ill.- Looking to pick up where Freddie King left off, Judson University alumnus Diego Cevallos has been named the interim women's soccer coach for the 2008 season. Cevallos is a 2004 graduate of Judson University with a degree in pre-med.

"Diego has been a part of the Judson athletic department for a long time and he definitely deserves a chance to lead his own team," says Judson Director of Athletics Nancy Smith. "I have no doubt that the team will respond to his leadership and that he can build on what Freddie has started. It will be exciting to see where his efforts can take this program."

Cevallos has been an assistant coach for the Judson men's soccer team the past four seasons after playing for head coach Steve Burke. Cevallos was a key component in helping to recruit the classes that went 74-14-6 in the past four seasons in men's soccer. In those seasons, Judson developed a dynasty for men's soccer as they won four straight CCAC Championships, CCAC Tournament Championships, NAIA Region VII Championships, and been to the NAIA National Tournament. No other CCAC men's soccer team has accomplished that before.

In his first season as an assistant coach in 2004, Judson went 21-0 for an undefeated regular season and finished with a 23-1-1 record. Their lone loss of the season came to eventual national champion Lindsay Wilson in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. Also in his four years as an assistant coach, Judson had a 20-game winning streak in the CCAC from 2004 through the 2006 season.

Cevallos played three seasons for Judson and was a part of their 2002 NCCAA National Championship team.

Originally from Costa Rica, Cevallos was a part of the Costa Rica National Team for U-15 before moving to the United States. For several years now, he has been a part of and coached local players through club soccer. He currently coaches for the Crystal Lake Force and the Elite Program. He holds a NSCAA National Diploma and will earn his Advanced Diploma this summer.

Cevallos resides in West Dundee, Illinois, where he also helps with worship at his father's church the Shalom Community Church.

"I look forward to continuing the great tradition that has been established by Freddie," says Cevallos. "Freddie accomplished something special here with the first CCAC Championship and I want to continue to move those accomplishments forward and become a national title competitor."
