Elgin, Ill. – Tying the school record for consecutive wins, Judson University (10-14/7-3) won game one, 5-2, but fell in game two to Trinity International University (11-12/6-7), 8-5, as the Eagles split the CCAC series. Judson won their ninth game in a row to tie the school record for consecutive wins that was set in the 2004 season.

Judson currently stands in third place in the CCAC with a 7-3 record and is just three games behind Purdue-North Central who has an 11-1 record in the CCAC.

Roger Lugo led Judson in hitting as he went 3-of-6 with one RBI and two runs scored in both games.

Game 1

Judson tied the school record for consecutive wins as they won 5-2 for their ninth win in a row. Juan P. DeArmas pitched 6.1 innings for the win and had a no-hitter through 4.1 innings of the game. He finished with three strikeouts on the day and only gave up four hits and three walks. Kyle Kobernus came in the top of the seventh inning to pitch 0.2 innings and pick up his first save of the year.
 

Judson took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and then made it 3-0 in the fourth. Both Zach Scipione and Oscar DePablos scored in the first inning on a TIU fielding error to make it 2-0. Then, in the fourth inning, Lugo singled through the left side to score Brett Ehrlich.

In the top of the fifth inning, TIU cut the score to one, 3-2, when they scored two on a double down the left field line. Judson answered in the bottom of the sixth inning with two insurance runs for a three-run advantage. Rafael Tejada, Jr., was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Jacob Bostwick for a 4-2 lead. After a JU strikeout, Kevin Fischer was walked to score the fifth run of the game as Lugo crossed the plate.

Both Scipione and Ehrlich were 2-of-3 on the game as they both also scored a run. Fischer had a RBI along with Tejada and Lugo.

Game 2
TIU 8, Judson 5

Judson's winning streak came to an end in game two as TIU led from the beginning. TIU scored three runs in the top of the first on a three-run home run over the left field fence.

It was not until the bottom of the third inning that Judson's offense finally answered with four runs to take the one-run lead, 4-3. Tejada started off the inning with a double and then advanced to third two batters later on a Lugo single. Fischer gave Judson their first run of the game on a single to right field to score Tejada. Two batters later, Scipione sacrificed his at-bat with a fly ball to right field that advanced Lugo home to make it 4-2. On that same play, Fischer scored on a throwing error of the right fielder to score the third run. Oscar DePablos gave Judson the one-run lead when he came home on a passed ball to make it 4-3.

The lead did not last long as TIU scored two in the top of the fourth and then followed that with one in the fifth and two in the sixth for their eight runs.

Judson threatened in the bottom of the fifth when it was 6-4 as they came within one again, 6-5. DeArmas scored on a fielding error for the fifth run. With only one out, JU had two runners in scoring position but did not get the hit to bring the tying and go ahead runs home. TIU then added two insurance runs in the sixth for the three-run lead.

Alfred LaVire received the win for TIU as he went seven innings. Trent Golz pitched five innings for Judson and gave up six runs, four earned, with three strikeouts. Alci Gonzales and Kyle Kobernus each pitched an inning an recorded two strikeouts a piece.

Lugo was the only Eagle with two hits as he went 2-of-3 with a run scored. Fischer and Scipione each had a RBI in the game.

Judson will travel to Chicago to face Robert Morris College on Wednesday, April 9th, at 3:00 p.m. in CCAC play.
