ELGIN, IL – The Judson women's cross country team has earned the first Top 25 NAIA national ranking in program history.  The Lady Eagles are currently ranked 25th in this week's NAIA National Cross Country Top 25 Poll.

Head Coach Tim Ciochon, in just his second season in this role, has helped guide the team to this great accomplishment and had this to say about the rating. "The top 25 rating is a testament to the outstanding work ethic & cohesiveness of our ladies! They are working together toward a common goal and putting the team above themselves."

The Eagles have been on the verge of receiving this honor in recent years as they would occasionally receive votes during both the 2011 and 2013 seasons. "Last year, our women's team was a solid Top-30 contender, receiving votes in 6 of 8 polls, but we were never able to put it together by the end of the season, especially as a largely unknown program until recent years," Ciochon added.  "This year, we know that every meet is extremely important to prove our strength as a program."

The Eagles have been led this year by experienced senior runners in Jordan Wagner, Sarah Miller, and Gabriela Nevius.  Sophomores Rachel Cavender and Amanda Zylstra have been staples in the Top 7 runners for the team.  Judson has also benefited from a strong group of incoming runners with freshman Jeslaine Thompson and Lacey Heaver and junior Krista Peterson.

The Judson cross country programs were restarted in 2008 by Coach Rich Weinhandl, who helped laid the groundwork for future success.  Weinhandl spent 3 seasons as Head Coach for the ladies' program (2008, 2009, and 2012) and current athletic director Joel Cotton spent two seasons as head coach in 2010 and 2011.  In seven years, the program has now reached the point of receiving national recognition as one of the Top 25 women's cross country programs.

The cross country season continues this Saturday as both the men's and women's teams will run in the Lucian Rosa Invitational at UW-Parkside in Kenosha, WI.  The entire NAIA National poll for the week of October 8th is listed below.
