SOUTH BEND, Ind.  – The Judson men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Bethel Invite on Friday, Oct. 11 against 13 opposing schools with the women's squad coming out on-top of the competition.

The (RV) Lady Eagles continue to help their cause of gaining national recognition. Senior Meaghan Gard-Ciochon placed first in a field of 147 with a school-record performance for the 5K event with a time of 18:24 beating the second finisher by 43 seconds.

Sophomore Jordan Wagner finished third in the field with a time 19:07 and junior Sarah Miller came in 8th with a 19:31 time to round out the three top-10 finishers for the Lady Eagles.

Justine McDowell, Gabby Nystrom, Rachel Cavender and Cassie Criminger composed the second pack with strong performances to help their team win the event. McDowell completed her lifetime best time for cross country with a 21:03 – over a minute better than her previous best.

"I think we went out there and compete well," first year head coach Tim Ciochon said following the meet on Friday. "Times are moving in the right direction.

"Overall, there were seven 'PRs' for the ladies out of 14 competitors," Ciochon said. "I'll take that."

Following the women's portion of the competition, the men ran their 8K event. Sophomore Mitch Mallary was the top finisher for the Eagles coming in 64th with a time of 29:22. Elijah Bobell was not far behind him coming with a time of 30:33.

The men finished 12th out of 14 total schools.

The two squads have a couple weeks to get over illness and recover as they prepare for the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Riverside Park.
