Ormond Beach, Fl. – In day three of baseball in the Ormond Beach College Baseball Jamboree, Judson University fell to 1-4 on the season with losses to #21 Missouri Baptist and Marian College. Judson will now play a double header on Thursday vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene.
“I am proud of the way we are playing,” says head coach Rich Benjamin. “We are playing a lot of tough competition and staying with the teams. Our execution is getting better as we play more together. The young pitching staff has done well against the teams we have been playing.”
Judson carried a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning vs. #21 Missouri Baptist when they gave up six runs to fall behind, 6-2, in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles could not muster any offense in the top of the seventh for a comeback.
Daryl Cox went 5 1/3 innings and pitched five shutout innings before giving up the six runs. He recorded five strikeouts in the loss. Alici Gonzales finished the final 2/3 of the inning.
Judson scored two runs in the second inning as Kevin Fischer knocked in one run and then MBU walked in the other run to make it 2-0. Fisher, Brett Ehrlich, and Angel Cisneros each had a hit for Judson.
Marian College scored one run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Judson’s Nick Scipione picked up a RBI when he brought in a run to make it 4-1.
Fischer led the hitting for Judson as he was 3-of-3 and Cisneros was 2-of-2. Trent Golz went five innings for the loss and Gonzales pitched the sixth inning.
Judson will now face Mt. Vernon Nazarene University on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in a double header.
