Judson baseball headed south to Tennessee to face #22 ranked Freed Hardeman, but came back empty handed after the Lions took all four games from the Eagles. Here is a recap of the four game series.
Game 1 - In game one, the home team scored five times in the first, which is all they would need to secure the victory. The Eagles only managed two runs on four hits off of Lion starter Dan Creighton (3-0), who also struck out eight Judson batters. The Lions took the opening game 5-2.
Game 2 – Andrew Bergman took the mound for the Eagles and was able to keep the Lions scoreless through the first six innings. Cameron Balough put Judson on the board with a solo home run in the fifth and the Eagles would add three more runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead into the last inning. Jordan Pemble came into the game to try and close out the game, but the Lions were able to rally by scoring 5 times in the seventh to win with a walk-off single that scored the final two runs of the game and help the Lions win 5-4.
Game 3 – The Eagles dropped the opening game on Saturday 11-10. Hits and runs were more prevalent in Day 2 of the series as both teams scored early. The teams traded runs and were locked in a 7-7 tie heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lions then put four runs on the board and held an 11-7 lead heading into the last inning. The Eagles would rally with three runs, but would leave the bases loaded in the last inning to fall one run short of completing the rally.
Game 4 – Trying to salvage a win in the weekend series, Judson jumped on top of the home team early and led 7-5 after four innings at the plate. The Lions then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead at 9-7, which would end up being the final score. The Eagles would threaten in each of the last two innings, but they could not push a run across in the end. Judson finished with 7 runs on 14 hits and 2 errors. Freed Hardeman had 9 runs on 12 hits with 1 error. Judson left 14 runners on base compared to only 6 left on base for the Lions.
#25 Judson now stands at 5-7 on the young season. The Eagles will travel next Friday and Saturday to Upland, IN to take on the Taylor Trojans, who are receiving votes in the Top 25 poll. Two games will be played on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
