A record that had stood since 1970 was finally bettered by Freshman, David Mellado during his Long Jump phase of the seven event Heptathlon at the recently completed National Christian Colleges Athletic Association held at Indiana Wesleyan University.  The feat wasn't discovered until Coach Rich Weinhandl was updating the career performance lists.  David set records in Pole Vault and Long Jump on his way to a 4407 point performance good for 15th best in the country.  David entered the meet ranked 31st and needed a stellar performance to reach the top 16 in the country.  Only the top 16 multi event athletes are invited to the NAIA Indoor Track Championships.

David competes on Thursday and Friday, February 28 and 29.  The Championships will be webcasted from the NAIA.org website.
