Ormond Beach, Fl. – Judson University gave head coach Rich Benjamin his first collegiate win in style as they knocked off #24 Dickinson State, 10-4, in a nine inning game. Judson led from the beginning and never gave up the lead.
“We took the lead early and never gave it up,” says head coach Rich Benjamin. “We did not stop playing after we had the lead and we stayed focus the entire game. I am proud of our team and what they accomplished today.”
Carlos Soto went seven of the nine innings and recorded four strikeouts with two runs and one unearned. Daryl Cox, in his first collegiate action, finished off the final two innings and had one strikeout and no walks. Judson finished the game on a double play for their first win.
Judson went on an offensive tear in their third game of the year vs. the #24 team in the nation as they produced 20 hits. Oscar DePablos broke the single game record for hits as he went 6-of-6 with five singles and a double. The previous record was held by Hank Faulkner and Javier Alicea of five hits.
Rafeal Tejada was 3-of-5 with a double and two singles followed by Nick Scipione with two singles, Roger Lugo with two hits, and Trent Golz with two hits. Kevin Fischer and Angel Cisneros each had a single and Bret Ehrlich recorded a double.
Judson started off the game with four runs in the first inning and then added a run in the fourth and fifth innings. They picked up three runs in the sixth and then one in the eighth inning for 10 runs.
Judson will face stiff competition, again, on Wednesday, as they face Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and Marion College in nine inning games.
