
Elgin, Ill. - Displaying one of their best shooting performances of the year, #3 Judson University (12-16) shot 61% from the floor en route to a 99-44 win over #6 Calumet College (3-27) in the first round of the CCAC Tournament. Judson will now face Trinity International on Wednesday, February 27th, in Deerfield, Illinois.
Judson put on a shooting performance from the beginning of the game by making both 61% in the first half and 62% in the second half. JU made 75% from the three-point line in the second half (3-of-4). Crystal Goodall, who only played 18 minutes in the second half, went 8-of-8 from the floor for 18 points.
Judson had six players in double figures as Kirstin Johns was just one-point shy of her career-high with 19 points. Goodall added a career-high 18 points followed by Kelly Friestad with 16, Heidi Rosenbaum with 14, and Alicia Rovertoni and Theresa Larson with 12 each. Rovertoni collected her 10th double-double of the season in the first half and finished with 11 rebounds. Calumet’s Katrina Pradziad had 23 points to lead all scorers.
Calumet kept it close early in the first half as they were only down three, 9-6, with 14:42 left in the half. Judson took a five-point lead, 16-11, on a Rosenbaum shot at the 11:57 mark and then a Pradziad jumper just 26 seconds later brought the score to 16-13.
In the next four minutes, Judson reeled off a 17-2 run for an 18-point lead, 33-15. From that point on, CC’s momentum was stopped. A Friestad lay up with 5:30 to go in the half gave JU a 21-point lead, 41-20. Then, just before the half, Johns hit a shot to give Judson a 30-point lead, 57-27. CC’s Pradziad nailed a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to bring the halftime score to 57-30.
Judson held CC to just two baskets made in the second half as the Crimson Wave scored 10 points on a 10 free throws. By the 16:02 mark, JU had a 40-point lead on a Goodall jumper and then Devonaye Henderson gave JU a 50-point lead, 86-36, at the 9:53 mark. JU’s largest lead was 57 points on another Henderson shot with 2:34 left in the game.
JU forced 18 turnovers and had 11 steals in the win. They also out rebounded CC, 48-17.
Judson will now travel to Trinity International on Wednesday, February 27th, to face the Trojans. The winner of that game will advance to the CCAC Championship.
