Men's Soccer - Sun, Sep. 2, 2012

Upland, Ind.- Steve Burke has become the 11th coach in Men's Soccer history to win 500 career games. Judson won in dramatic fashion, beating #20 Taylor University 2-1 in the final minutes of play. Burke knew it was one of the toughest teams to face in order to achieve such success, but his team came out on top. By doing so, it allowed Burke to reach this great achievement of 500 wins.

After losing the night before, on his first attempt, Judson was able to stun Taylor with such a heart wrenching victory. Burke stated that the environment was electrifying, and the crowd was highly present in the game.  Burke also said that he was extremely happy with how Judson won his 500th win. "We have been struggling early this season with injuries and all the new players.  To go up against a tough team, a nationally ranked team, we knew it would be tough. Throughout the game there was just phenomenal play from both teams. Then, to win within the final minutes was just gratifying."

Steve Burke had a strong background in soccer, which was very helpful in the success he has achieved throughout his years. His background in soccer started with his father, who coached for a number of years. Burke found the ways to be successful through observing his father and carried many traits, even to this day. A lot of his success came from trial and error once he started coaching his own teams. His foundation did come from his father, but he himself needed to build off of that. Burke found his niche at the NAIA and NCCAA level of play and has been successful ever since his decision to coach at Judson.

Burke is currently in his 29th year (1984-present) coaching Judson Men's Soccer. Burke currently holds a record of 500-154-36. Burke is also working on his 28th consecutive season with a winning record. Coach Burke has many coaching honors to his name, including NAIA All-time Wins Leader, NAIA District Coach of the year (1990, 1992), NAIA Area Coach of the year (1990), NCCAA National Coach of the year (1987, 1992, 2003, 2004), NCCAA Regional/District Coach of the year (8 times), and CCAC Coach of the year (6 times). Adding to his accomplishments, Burke is now the 11th coach with 500 wins to his name.

Coach Burke would also like to thank everyone for all of the support he has received throughout the years coaching at Judson. He also "hopes it is not over", and there could be many more wins to come.
