Des Moines, Iowa- Judson Volleyball program starts the season off right winning 3 of their first 4 games. The Lady Eagles were led by senior Carissa Oelke and junior Kirsten Kohlstedt. Judson played some tough competition, playing the 13th ranked team in the Nation(Grand View University), Benedictine College, Waldorf College, and another Receiving Vote (Evangelical University), but it only fueled Judson to play at the top of their game.
On Friday night, the Lady Eagles played their first games of the season against Grand View University and Benedictine College. In Judson's first game of the year, the Lady Eagles lost all 3 sets (13-25, 10-25, 20-25), but that did not discourage the Lady Eagles. They came together and beat Benedictine in 3 sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-21). To end the night, the Eagles were lead by Oelke who had 15 kills with a .438 kill %. Kirsten Kohlstedt added 34 assist to help Judson win their first game of the year.
Saturday: After finishing the night before with a win, Judson looked to build on their success, and they came ready to play. Again, led by Carissa Oelke and Kirsten Kohlstedt, Judson started their day playing Waldorf College winning the match in 4 games (25-23, 25-19, 26-28, 25-12). In the match, Oelke had 19 kills and 24 digs, while Kohlstedt had 42 assists, and Taylor Lesner added 17 digs to help push past Waldorf College.
In Game 2 on Saturday, Judson was up against Evangel University. Judson looked to start a winning streak, and the Lady Eagles delivered. Judson won the match in 3 sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-19).
Contributing to the success of the Eagles, Danielle Sladek added 8 blocks and Isadora Borrero added 6 blocks to help led Judson on their winning streak.
Judson will play on August 28 at Chicago State University* at 7:00 pm
