ELGIN, Ill. – Starting the 2012 season off with a bang, the #14 Judson University women's soccer team shut out the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), 6-0. Judson added three goals in each period for six goals and Sara Hoffman earned her first shut out of the year. Angela Bianchi led the team with eight points scoring three goals and assisting on two. Jordan Rossi, Joslin Ward, and Jenna Steffensen also scored to put Judson up 6-0.
It took Judson 20 minutes to score their first goal in the 2012 season when Bianchi and Kristina Barreto found Rossi open to go up 1-0 at the 19:25 mark. After almost 20 minutes of no scoring, Judson netted two goals in three minutes for the 3-0 halftime lead. NAIA All-American Steffensen collected her first goal of the year in the 41st minute off of a Bianchi and Ward assist. In the 44th minute, Bianchi scored her first of three goals pushing the lead to three as Ward and Steffensen gave her the chance to score.
Again, it took Judson some time to find the net in the second half as they made it 4-0 in the 69th minute. Ward found the net in an unassisted shot to push the lead to four. Bianchi added back-to-back goals in the 70th and 73rd minute as Judson took a 6-0. Jenna Schiller and Jamie Kats both assisted on the goals.
Sara Hoffman started the season off strong with her first shutout and had one save. She faced just one shot on goal and five shots overall. Judson out shot Saint Francis, 21-5, and had 16 shots on goal.
Judson will host St. Ambrose, who is receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24th, at Dawson Field.
